Positions Available > Lead Engineer
Northwest Media based in Eugene, OR is seeking a Lead Engineer to assist in the development of a serious game for teens that are deemed at-risk. These teens are usually in a foster care or group home situation and lack the self-efficacy to emancipate from the system, find and keep a job and to rent an apartment to achieve independent living.

This third person RPG serious game will introduce at-risk teens to the concepts and skills needed for them to achieve self-efficacy. That is, the ability to change ones situation to get their desired outcome in the way they want it to happen.

The Lead Engineer will work with the Lead Game Designer, Lead Technical Artist, the Art Director, Project Director and others to satisfy development goals.


Lead Engineer Job Responsibilities
  • Create data driven gameplay systems that allow rapid design iteration
  • Keep up to date with the latest gameplay innovations from other games
  • Review and critique all design documentation for technical and budgeting feasibility
  • Assist in hiring efforts as needed related to finding and interviewing talent
  • Help fill knowledge gaps among team members by educating them as needed
  • Establish programming standards for others on the team to follow
  • Use Unity to rapidly prototype various gameplay ideas
  • As needed, develop/modify systems related to core engine components (sound, physics, networking, graphics, UI, AI)
  • Contribute to the planning and development of gameplay experiences throughout prototype and production phases

Lead Engineer Job Requirements
  • Two plus years of experience with Unity 3D and experienced with version 3.2
  • CS degree or equivalent industry experience of shipped titles
  • Have knowledge of and a willingness to work in a SCRUM-like agile production process
  • Experience in gameplay programming in conversation, AI, inventory, economy systems and more
  • Experience in developing and shipping games in a senior or lead position
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge in C# and Javascript languages
